Hvad angår 14. og 15. udgave (undertegnede har ikke læst 16. udgave): General Ophthalmology er nok mere grundig end generel. Bogen er meget omfattende, og niveauet er højt. Desværre er grundigheden og dybden formidlet sådan at bogen er temmelig svær at læse, men let at tabe overblikket over. Rent fysisk fremstår bogen kedelig med mange siders ren tekst, trist sprog og udelukkende sort-hvide billeder. Medmindre der er sket væsentlige forbedringer i den nyeste udgave er General Ophthalmology en bog mange vil være dømt til at opgive, hvis ikke de er meget interesserede i ophthalmologi - og selv da findes der nok bedre bøger.
